About the Speaker:

Dr. Claretha Hughes is a published author with numerous articles and chapters (over eighty) in peer-reviewed journals and has written fourteen books. She teaches at the University of Arkansas (UA) as a Human Resource & Workforce Development professor.

  • She has a Ph.D. in Career & Technical Education from Virginia Tech, an MBA from the University of Arkansas, a Masters in Textile Technology Management from North Carolina State University, and a B.A. in Chemistry from Clemson University.
  • Her research is on people-centered values in the workplace, diversity intelligence, learning technologies, and workplace ethical and legal issues.
  • She is a Langevin Certified Master Trainer, Harvard Management Development Fellow, and a Darden School of Business Minority Executive Education Scholar.

Business Highlights:

  • Founder and President, Best Practice Services, an organizational project management consulting firm
  • Owner, Diversity Intelligence™ LLC, offering the Hughes and Liang Diversity Intelligence™ assessment
  • Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated, Abbott Laboratories, and Burlington Industries: served in manufacturing leadership roles.

  • She has served as a mentor for minority undergraduate research students in the former UA Carver Project Summer program.
  • She has served as an internal program reviewer at the University of Arkansas.
  • She has served as an external reviewer at the Department of Workforce Education and Development for Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
  • She has served as a Faculty-in-Residence at Clemson University.
  • She has served as a grant proposal reviewer for the Minority Business Development Agency in the United States Department of Commerce. She has also served as Co-PI on a National Science Foundation Research in Formation of Engineers grant.
